I need to have a 5 minute
typing test. Does your web site provide this?
Most likely our site will meet
this requirement. Our site measures typing
speed by presenting a certain amount of text to
type, and timing how long this takes. Unless
your speed is extremely high (greater than 70 words
per minute), or the employer requires that the test
be exactly 5 minutes and zero seconds (which
is rare), our site should meet your needs.
My potential employer
requires information that is not included on your
certificate. What can I do?
The site also includes a detailed
test report which has information (such as the test
length and error count) not included on the
certificate. To see this report, log into your
account and click on the "View / Print Detailed Test
Report" link. Feel free to present this report
along with your typing certificate to an employer or
other interested persons.
Note that the detailed report is
available to users who took their final test on or
after 4/14/2005, the date this feature was added to
the web site. If you took your test before
this, you can receive an official letter as
described below.
Occasionally, we do come across
employers who require specific information not included on
the web site. If this occurs, we can
generate an official, signed, letter (at no cost to
you) which has the required information. To
receive this letter, send an e-mail to
support@provemyspeed.com, which includes your
account's username as well as the information
needed. We can send the letter with your
certificate if you are ordering prints by mail, or
we can send you the letter via e-mail. We
guarantee your letter will be generated in less than
a business day.
I finished a final test
but do not see a way to view or print my
certificate. What do I need to do? Do I
need to take all 3 final tests?
The web site requires that all 3
final tests be taken. When these are finished,
you then choose the best score to appear on your
certificate. You can quickly get through the
remaining final tests by only typing 2 or 3 words of
the text and then clicking on the "Done" button.
This will result in a test result with very low
accuracy. However, you can simply avoid
choosing this test result when the web site asks you
which score to put onto your certificate.
What is the difference
between this web site and your Custom Typing
Training web site?
For individuals, our
Custom Typing Training web site is the best
choice if you want to improve your typing
speed. If you are already experienced at
typing, this web site is the best choice for
measuring and proving your speed. Custom
Typing Training will also measure your speed, but
does not provide typing certificates.
For companies and schools
who are conducting typing training, we recommend
that you visit our
Custom Typing Training web site.
I'm an employer who
needs to test the typing speed of job candidates or
employees. Can I use your site for this?
If you require your job candidates
to obtain and present their own certification, you
can refer them to this web site, where they can
create their own accounts and send the results to
you.
If your company is paying for
typing certification for employees or job
candidates, you can create accounts for each
employee or candidate. To allow your company
to create employee or job candidate accounts, our
site maintains separate records for the test taker
and payer.
If you are testing large numbers
of candidates and/or need advanced reporting and
administration features, take a look at our
Custom Typing Training web site.
How are the scores
(words-per-minute and accuracy) calculated?
For the gross words-per-minute
(WPM), we use the standard formula. The number
of characters typed is divided by 5 to get the
number of words. (5 is the average length of a
word, including the space between.) This is
divided by the exercise time to get the words per
minute.
The percentage accuracy is based
on the number of correct words typed.
The number of correct words is divided by the number
of total words, then multiplied by 100. Making
multiple mistakes in a single word only counts as a
single mistake.
The adjusted words-per-minute is
simply the gross words-per-minute multiplied by the
percentage accuracy. For example, if your
gross WPM is 61 and your accuracy is 98%, then your
adjusted words-per-minute is 60 (61 x .98 = 59.78,
rounded up).
When I try to print the
typing certificate, the edges are cut-off. How do I
fix this?
First, make sure your page setup
is set to the right orientation. Some
certificates print in the standard portrait mode,
and others print in landscape mode, in which the
page is rotated. To adjust your settings,
choose the "Page Setup" command from your browser's
"File" menu.
If your orientation is correct,
then you probably need to reduce your page margins.
This can also be done using the "Page Setup"
command.
Can I remove the headers and
footers that my web browser puts on the page when I
print my certificate?
Yes! In Internet Explorer,
choose the "Page Setup" command from the "File"
menu, and clear the Header and Footer text boxes.
Before doing this however, you may want to write
down or copy what was there, so you can change the
setting back later.
In Firefox, choose the "Page
Setup" command from the "File" menu, then click on
the "Margins and Header/Footer" tab. Set all
of the items to "blank".
I've downloaded the zip file. How do I
view the certificate?
If you're a Windows XP or Vista user, the
zip file can be opened just like an ordinary folder.
However, you will need to copy and paste, or click
and drag, the files from the zip file into another
location. Once you've done this, open the "Typing_Certificate.htm"
file to view the certificate.
For other operating systems, you
will need a separate utility, such as
WinZip. In
this case, you will need to extract the files from
the archive. Once extracted, open the "Typing_Certificate.htm"
file to view the certificate.
When I try to view the certificate after
downloading, I don't see any graphics or background.
How do I fix this?
First, make sure you have actually
extracted the files from the zip archive.
Windows XP, along with other zip file applications,
allow you to open files directly from the zip
archive. However, this does not work with the
typing certificate. In Windows XP, you will
need to copy and paste, or click and drag, the files
from the zip file into another location. With
another zip file application, you will need to
extract the files and save them to another location
on your computer.
If you have extracted the files,
and are still seeing this problem, then the
problem is that the "background.jpg" file, which was
included when you downloaded the zip file, is
missing or in the wrong location. This file
should be in the same directory as the "Typing_Certificate.htm"
file, which you open to view the certificate.
How can I receive a refund
under your money-back guarantee?
We can offer a refund if you have
not yet completed the testing process and received
your certificate. For example, we will
unconditionally refund your money if you have an
older computer that is not compatible with our site,
or if your circumstances change and you no longer
need the typing certificate.
To request a refund, send an email
to
support@provemyspeed.com, making sure to include
your account username, along with the reason you
need the refund. If you paid online by credit
card, we will issue a refund of your credit card
charge. If you paid by mail, we will mail a
refund check to you.
